CORPORATE AND COMMERCIAL ART |
|
Without something on the walls, the offices and hallways of a business can be quite bland. The tendency toward blue-white or gray walls and high ceilings doesn't in itself lend much to the decor of a space, but is in fact the perfect canvas on which to begin displaying beautiful art that will welcome your clients, draw them in, and make them want to stay - along with your top notch business savvy, of course.
There is a shift occurring lately, as corporate art collecting grows in popularity. High quality wall decor is now seen as an extension of a business' style and prosperity, as opposed to an unnecessary luxury. Clients, employees, and partners alike appreciate the effort that must be expended to create a beautiful workspace.
If your business is feeling a bit too stark, or you simply want to find out more about your choices, read on to see how KeenART Media can help turn your nine to five surroundings into a dynamic piece of art.

STARTING A CORPORATE ART COLLECTION
|
|
The most practical decision to be made once your business has decided to begin an art collection is the budget. You don't want to fall in love with six paintings or prints that simply must go together, only to discover the selection is miles outside your price range. Art is important, but your accountant doesn't need to take out a second mortgage just to finance it.
If you're a smaller business, or just starting up, prints are probably the best choice. A gallery wrapped canvas or fine art paper print will give your office walls the bold pop of color and taste that you are looking for - and the good ones are indistinguishable from originals - without forcing you to live with those choices for the duration of the company's reign.
KeenART Media offers beautiful fine art prints that will add an animated glow or sophisticated charm to your corporate offices. If your current architecture and decor is contemporary, with straight angles and open concepts, consider a Plexiglass Facemount or a Dry Mount on aluminium di-bond. To soften the space without mixing themes, consider an abstract color field canvas with a resin coating for a high shine and high fashion, frameless display.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF SIZE
|
|
Size is an important consideration for any art display. An overlarge piece will dwarf the room, and make the canvas appear to be stuffed into the space. A piece that is too small will look stark and tacky, as though it was placed in the room in a hurry, rather than selected specifically for that location.
But appearance isn't the only reason to think about size. An office building is a communal space that often sees hundreds or even thousands of people through its halls every day. Small pieces are much easier to steal in the rush of foot traffic at the end of the day - this is the reason tabletop statues are not a common decor choice for populated spaces.
This does not mean security alarms are the only option, however. Expensive or important pieces can be displayed with hardware that is attached to the back of the frame and then directly into the wall. This makes it impossible for someone walking by to simply lift the artwork off its hook.
A very large piece can be problematic as well, even if it is the perfect fit for a spacious room. It is unlikely a thief could make it out the door, but it's possible no one else could either! This means when it comes time to move to a different building or a new head office, an inevitable event in the future of many businesses, that piece just might be left behind, or wind up in storage if there is no place for it in the new building.
Multi-panel artworks are one great option when a large amount of space must be covered. Whether you choose three or more individual pieces that flow together, or actually divide a single image into three separate canvases, this approach has long been popular on big walls and it is easy to see why. Not only is this style cheaper to ship, with less likelihood of damage, it is easier to hang, less likely to require heavyduty hardware, and simple to relocate if necessary.

ALTERNATE MEDIA
|
|
Maybe you're just not feeling the classic wrapped or framed canvas look, and picture frame selection just seems too intimidating and time consuming. Not to worry - there are plenty of alternative options to traditional, frame-free wall decor, and you can take pride in knowing you're a forerunner of a contemporary style.
The four styles below use a print produced on fine art paper. In most cases, a specific paper can be chosen (or selected by our knowledgeable staff) based on what will best suit the image and the display. Options include matte, smooth, textured, glossy, and metallic.
Wood Panels
The prints you select will be mounted on thick, wood panels and finished with a resin layer. This style allows you to keep the boxy design of a canvas, minus the traditional appearance. The result will be a high gloss, crystal clear surface over your archival quality print, which protects from moisture, UV light, and heat. A resin layer is the equivalent thickness and strength of fifty layers of varnish.
Acrylic/Plexi Facemounts
Your prints are mounted behind a 3mm thick pane of top quality acrylic. Because the clear acrylic is pressed directly against the print, instead of simply resting in front of it, different reflective properties create a uniquely clear and almost three dimensional effect. The transparent mounting tissue used to affix the paper to the acrylic is UV resistant, and will not yellow from light exposure.
Some companies offer prints directly on acrylic, which can create a slightly duller picture. When the image is produced on white paper first, the largest possible color gamut and bold, vivid hues are maintained.
At KeenART Media, we offer the best possible option for backing. While plastics and foam boards can warp, peel, and bend, we use high quality Dibond aluminium sheeting, which is made by sandwiching a rigid polyethylene core between two sheets of pure aluminium. The result is a lightweight, extremely sturdy base that will
keep your print flawlessly flat and wall mounted as the company is passed down through the generations.
Dry Mounts on Aluminium
This style is essentialy an acrylic facemount, minus the acrylic. Your print is affixed with mounting tissue on a sheet of Dibond aluminium, and heat-pressed for a firm, even seal. This incredibly thin display can then be mounted on the wall to give the appearance that it is floating unassisted. The beauty of this choice is your opportunity to showcase the selected substrate. A matte, textured fine art paper creates a striking modern look, while metallic paper gives depth and dimension to bold colors.
Plaque Mounting
Plaque mounts are popular for offices that want to showcase their awards, achievements and certifications, but its uses also extend to creating durable, frameless art displays.
Your image will be mounted on a wooden board (various thicknesses and layouts are available) with a beveled edge in your choice of color, and covered with a matte laminate that protects it from UV light, scratching, and moisture. Plaque mounts are extremely lightweight, and there's no dangerous shattered glass to clean if they should fall.

SAY IT IN TEXT
|
|
Sometimes a valley landscape or classical painting of a Roman marketplace just doesn't suit a business. In those cases, text-based prints can be an excellent alternative to keep some color and interest on the walls, without going away from the desired look and feel of the office.
Wordles
Despite a somewhat goofy name, Wordles or Word Clouds made from your company's mission statement, product list or company bio. An automatically generated Word Cloud will make words that feature prominently in the body of text larger, drawing focus to the most sigificant aspects of your business. Wordles can also be handcrafted to highlight whatever phrases and terms you choose.
Text Art
Text art is an image composed of lines of text in various colors or shades to produce a stylized design. Image your company logo built out of your mission statement, or simply created from words and phrases that have significance to your business.
Typography
If jumbled words or close-set rows of text aren't in line with your business model, typography is another great text-based option for office displays. An inspirational quote, the strongest line from your mission statement, or even simply the name of your company can be transformed into an eye-catching image for your reception desk or boardroom. You can select an image to accompany the text, or opt for a bold, solid color background.

ART THAT SUITS YOUR BUSINESS
|
|
Consider pushing the duty of your artistic selections beyond attractive decoration. You can use artwork in the waiting rooms, meeting rooms, and individual offices to wordlessly express your company's mission, values, goals, and successes. Your selections can range from practical visual representations of your business to more subtle parallels.
A high tech business that offers top of the line computer programming to international clients might select classic images showcasing technological or scientific progress, such as a vintage photograph of the Industrial Revolution or a painting of a great Renaissance man. But such a company could also choose a bold Pop Art print or a contemporary abstract painting. Though not as blatant as the figural depictions, these selections are recognized, either consciously or unconsciously, as progressive for their time, just like your business.
Finance-based businesses might choose reproductions of classic paintings depicting wealth and status or, more subtly, conservative landscapes or still lifes.
In a final example, medical clinics and offices could pick from the myriad famous images of anatomy and vitality, or opt for relaxing seascapes and flowers that provoke feelings of calm and gentleness.
